Facilities at Castlerahan Community Centre

At Castlerahan Community Centre, we endeavour to provide as many facilities as possible to our local community. Below is a list of the service we currently provide. We always welcome suggestions for new ideas, so please contact a committee member if you think there is something new that would be beneficial to the community.

Community Hall

Similar to many community centres, the Centre provides a large hall/meeting room, approximately 9m x 16m, equipped with a large projector. Typically, the area is used for local community group meetings, presentations and classes (e.g. Irish Dancing, etc).

Broadband Connection Point (BCP) / Internet access

As part of the National Broadband Plan, Cavan County Council has equipped the community centre with a BCP. This enables those from the local community to connect to the local internet service for free, once they authenticate with the Cavan Co. Co system. Internet access is available both inside the building and also in the car park.

Remote working desks

We currently provide four spaces for people who wish to work remotely. Each space provided a desk, chair and access to free Wi-Fi and toilet.

Changing Room

A changing room is available on request when the pitch is booked for matches. It is equipped with showers and access to the internal toilets.

Kitchen area

Small kitchen area designed to support small gatherings. External caterers are recommended for larger events.

Toilets

Indoor toilets for facilitating Male, Female and Disabled access. There is also one toilet accessible externally for times when the building is closed.

Playing Field

The most visible service onsite is the playing field. The pitch is equipped with ball stop nets located at both full-size goals, and two dugout/shelters. The professionally maintained pitch is available for bookings and has been used by many local GAA and Soccer clubs, as well as some County teams.

Nature Walk

We provide a walking path that surrounds the pitch and also around the majority of our site. It has been a very popular facility during the most recent Covid-19 pandemic, offering our community a safe place to exercise in a rural location, as other options in our community are along bust country roads. Given the location of our centre, there are many scenic views from the site, including Lough Sheelin and Lough Ramor in the distance, and the megalithic cairns at Lough crew. The walkway is typically illuminated during the darker winter evenings.

Grass area with flower bed and picnic tables

Besides the playing field, we also have a large grassed area that is suitable for smaller field games or picnic areas. We also have a small number of picnic tables on-site, with some new flower beds in the area.

Large car park

Aside from people using the various amenities on-site, the onsite car park has often been used for various events, e.g. local charity cycles or tractor runs, as well as some fundraising auctions. It is also used as an overflow for the local church for large events.
